Allan Angel started his career at 13 due to a devastating surgery. Taking solace in art and music, his first published piece was a Journal about his vacation in the Philippines back in 1984 at Sheppard Middle School.

His father was very proud of it. In it he described the 'barbaric' ways people ate and how he ate frog while visiting the Philippines. A classmate used that to ridicule him in school. It pushed Allan to write even more 'real' and provocative stories. Bullies should not be allowed to win.

Writing was what he really wanted to do, but took on drawing because it shed light to the stories he wanted to tell. Drawings made everything look good.

He went on to draw and write his own comics and sent it to all the publishers he knew. Nobody wanted to take him on, until his breakthrough in 1989-when he decided to publish his own works.

The first was an experimental comic book called Starchild. A comic book he first concocted at the age of 14. It was a super-hero title that featured prostitutes with super powers and mythical characters like Medusa. They got their powers from being hit by a comet. The main character was written for Madonna and in it, she is questioned by the police and she gives Femme Fatale like retorts.

He saw this about 6 years later with the Basic Instinct interrogation scene when it was released in the early 90's. There was also another movie that came out that featured Robert Townsend, about a comet giving a guy super powers, it was called The Meteor Man, shortly, thereafter.

Starchild bordered on bad taste. Allan asked the question what if... What if?

What if something that was 'tasteless' was done tastefully. Everytime he would read a comic book that bordered on bad taste or just in bad taste, it was also drawn badly. Like South Park.

His experiments in irony eventually lead him to the commercial assasin/robot story that is Snake Eyes. It started as a mini comic book in 1993 and eventually lead to his first sold out comic book. Snake Eyes started in or around 1993/1994 as a mini comic with a leather clad assassin who spoke in monotone and sometimes didn't speak at all.

It was inspired by The 60s Avengers show featuring Diana Rigg as Emma Peel and Madonna's amazon personae in The Blond Ambition World Tour.

The movie The Matrix would soon be released and in Allan's own words...

'I didn't watch it until friends told me to watch it, because the character Trinity and Agent Smiths look like the characters from my book. I watched the movie and was freaked out by the similarities. Of course, some of it was Chris Paris' ideas... wherever you are, friend, get in touch with me.'

Faced with the passing of his father and many 'snakes' in the industry, he quit in 1996. Only to come back in 2006 with Crimelords. An homage to all the people that make their life ripping off innocent people.

He showed it to his photography teacher and she commented that it was revolting... The violence, The action, The people hitting each other. You know... it's a comic book. Comic books shouldn't have those things.

Allan went to the dump and trashed about 2/3 the book of which he spent his hard earned $2,000 to print. In retrospect, how can you really write about criminals and make it for kids...

But still, that was kind of harsh, but he was used to it. You see. Allan believed in singing your song even if people don't want to hear it.

Madonna:

Dance and sing get up

And do your thing.

That's called Integrity.

Do Your Own Thing.
